Program note: This intense work is inspired by a photograph of Zhou Long's wife Chen Yi staring face to face with a hawk that had landed near their house. It is filled with eerie slides and gradual dynamic changes with a fierce pizzicato section that leads to the work's climax. Gazers is a fine contemporary piece that explores different sounds of the string quartet instruments and is suitable for the college through professional levels.
